Nerve blocks are one of the most effective tools we use to manage chronic pain. By delivering local anaesthetic — and, when appropriate, anti-inflammatory medication — close to the specific nerves carrying your pain signals, a nerve block can interrupt that signal and provide meaningful relief.
For many patients, nerve blocks offer relief when oral medications alone haven’t been enough, or when they’d prefer to avoid relying on medication long-term. Depending on the source of your pain, we may use nerve blocks to treat chronic back and neck pain, nerve-related pain, and a range of other persistent pain conditions. During your consultation, our physician will assess your situation and determine whether a nerve block is right for you.
What to expect
A nerve block is a quick outpatient procedure performed right here at our Oshawa clinic. Most patients are in and out the same day and able to return to their normal routine shortly afterward. Our physician will explain each step beforehand and answer any questions you have.
The degree and duration of relief varies from patient to patient. Some people experience relief that lasts weeks or months, and the procedure can often be repeated as part of an ongoing pain management plan.
Covered by OHIP
Nerve block injections at Oshawa Pain Institute are fully covered by OHIP. A valid OHIP card is required, and a referral from your family physician or specialist may be needed to book your appointment.
